Kiara Morant, the lady who crashed the automobile, was detained for not possessing a valid driver’s license.
A Florida family is mourning the loss of their young daughter, who was cruelly killed this week after a vehicle crashed into a preschool playground. On Wednesday, an 18-year-old lady driving a Jeep Cherokee veered off a DeSoto County road, resulting in her death.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, she drove through a chain-link fence surrounding a playground at Arcadia’s Imagination Station Learning Center, hitting two children; one of them was 4-year-old Maleena Valdez, playing inside. After colliding with a tree, the vehicle eventually came to a halt.
Valdez was taken to Gulf Coast Hospital by emergency officers summoned to the scene almost afterward, but she later died. According to FHP, the second youngster was rushed to DeSoto Memorial Hospital and is in critical condition. Becky Stidham, who was nearby at the time of the incident, described it as a terrifying experience.
“I said, ‘Well, it could be coming from our pool,’ but there were so many screams from so many kids and everything that I thought, well, you know, there’s no way it could be coming from the pool,” she recalled of the tragic day to WINK. Officers responding to the accident arrested the driver for failing to produce a valid driver’s license. According to ABC affiliate WFTS, she was later identified as Kiara Morant of Tampa.
Morant was arrested and put into the DeSoto County Jail at the time, as the crash was still being investigated. But, according to WTVT, she was freed from jail not long after but before Valdez died. Morant might now face more charges about the death of the youngster. Valdez was described as “the joy of our lives” who was “taken from us way too soon” on a GoFundMe campaign to assist her family with her burial expenses.
“She was the light of our life, and those who loved her will miss her terribly. She was a spunky, sweet, and amusing little girl who adored her older sister, mommy, and daddy above all else! Maleena was so pure-hearted and innocent! She still had a lot of life ahead of her! “It went on and on.
“Due to these unforeseen circumstances, her Mother will be out of work for some time to mourn the loss of her sweet baby girl, and we all know that bills don’t stop,” the statement reads. “On top of that, funeral costs will now be added to the everyday stuff that was already present before this horrible tragedy,” noting that the girl’s mother, Savannah, has another child to look after.
“We are requesting any assistance that can relieve even a small portion of the load for her family, allowing them to spend this time together and mourn without further stress. Please continue to pray for Maleena’s mother Savannah, father Miguel, sister Jazziah, and the rest of her family and friends, as well as for justice in this horrible tragedy “it was written.
