Although constipation may appear to be a minor irritation, ignoring it for an extended length of time can have major health consequences. The scenario below demonstrates how dangerous chronic constipation can be and why you should never ignore it.

A patient’s startling x-ray picture of long-term constipation The X-ray picture below shows a young woman who has suffered from persistent constipation for many years.

Her sickness worsened one day, and she lasted almost two weeks without a bowel movement. She finally sought medical treatment out of concern, but the results were troubling.

Source: Freepik

The Root Cause:

Stool accumulates in the colon (large intestine) when the digestive system is unable to discharge waste properly, causing significant pain and discomfort.

The colon finally becomes too huge to tolerate the excessive buildup of faeces.

The colon has greatly expanded, as shown on the X-ray, extending up into the chest area, close to the heart.

Extreme bloating and distension have almost removed the colon’s natural folds and wrinkles, which are essential for its function.

If left untreated, this often overlooked condition can lead to potentially catastrophic consequences.

Chronic constipation has dangerous consequences.

Severe colon distention:

When forced to grow beyond its usual length, the colon gradually loses its ability to compress and push faeces forward.

Constipation worsens as a result, making it more difficult for the body to have regular bowel movements.

Toxic buildup in the body:

Bacteria and hazardous compounds can be reabsorbed into the circulation if faeces remain in the colon for a lengthy period of time.

This can lead to weakened immunity, bloating, bad breath, acne, and persistent tiredness.

Haemorrhoids and anal fissures:

Haemorrhoids, or swollen veins in the rectum, are painful and bleeding disorders that can occur as a result of severe straining when trying to clear hard stools.

Anal fissures, which are tiny rips in the anus that cause terrible anguish during bowel movements, can develop in severe cases.

Intestinal blockage (bowel obstruction):

One of the most serious complications of untreated constipation is bowel obstruction.

When waste completely obstructs the intestines, it can cut off the blood flow to the gut, causing severe infections and tissue death (necrosis).

In severe cases, patients may require emergency surgery to eliminate the intestinal damage.

Increased risk of colon cancer:

Studies suggest that chronic constipation may raise the risk of colorectal cancer.

Long-term waste buildup in the colon increases exposure to chemicals that cause cancer, leading to inflammation and abnormal cell formation.

How to Prevent & Treat Constipation Naturally?

The good news is that making a few simple lifestyle modifications can help prevent constipation. Here are some suggestions for keeping a healthy digestive system:

Increase Fibre Intake:

Increase your consumption of whole grains, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables.

Natural laxatives include apples, pears, prunes, chia seeds, and flaxseed.

Stay hydrated:

Drink two to three litres (8 to 12 cups) of water every day to promote bowel movements and soften stools.

Drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning can help relieve constipation and stimulate digestion.

Limit processed and low-fiber foods.

Limit your consumption of red meat, dairy, fried meals, fast food, and refined carbs (white bread, pastries, and sugary snacks).

These foods create hard stools by inhibiting digestion.

Try Natural Remedies:

Drinking warm herbal teas like fennel, peppermint, or ginger tea might help with digestion.

Magnesium supplements and aloe vera juice may also assist with constipation.

Exercise regularly:

Movement promotes regular bowel motion and helps to stimulate the digestive tract.

Every day, practice 15 to 30 minutes of yoga, stretching, or walking.

Create a consistent Bathroom routine:

Teach your body to go at the same time every day, preferably immediately after eating.

Refraining from having bowel movements may worsen constipation over time.

Important reminder:

If you haven’t had a bowel movement in two to three days, you should begin to thoroughly check your food and lifestyle. Seek medical attention immediately away if your constipation lasts more than a week or if you have acute discomfort, bloating, vomiting, or blood in your stool.

Final Thoughts

Constipation is more than just an irritation; if left untreated, it can lead to serious health problems. By actively supporting your digestive system, you may improve gut health and avoid long-term problems.

Small daily practices are the cornerstone of your health, so listen to what your body is telling you!

Sweet potatoes are a root vegetable that has been grown for countless years. These starchy tubers belong to the Convolvulaceae family and are assumed to have originated in South and Central America. Today, over 400 distinct types are produced all over the world. They can be served as a side dish or used as a component in a meal. Sweet potatoes are not only tasty, but they also provide a variety of health advantages. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons you should incorporate sweet potatoes into your diet, from managing blood sugar levels to lowering inflammation and aiding in weight reduction.

1. Reduces inflammation

Credit: Pixels

According to studies, sweet potatoes, particularly purple types, contain anti-inflammatory chemicals. Orange variants are high in beta-carotene. The body transforms beta-carotene into vitamin A, a potent antioxidant capable of combating inflammation. In fact, orange-skinned types provide 400% of our daily vitamin A requirements. It’s a good idea to consume them with some olive oil since the fat helps your body absorb vitamin A more effectively.

2. Full of nutrients:

Credit: Pixabay

Sweet potatoes include critical minerals that promote good health, such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, folate, potassium, and choline. Calcium is vital for the development and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. It also helps with nail and hair care in menopausal women. Magnesium contains antioxidant effects and helps to control blood pressure. Phosphorus balances and utilises other minerals and vitamins, including iodine, zinc, magnesium, and vitamin D. Folate is very beneficial for pregnant women. They also include beta-carotene, an antioxidant that promotes eye health.

3. Could help in weight loss:

Sweet potatoes contain resistant starch, which the body cannot digest. One study found that this starch promotes peptide release. These peptides provide messages to your body indicating that you are full, reducing the amount of fat deposited. Obesity is a frequent risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. To avoid having these diseases, you must keep a healthy weight.

4. Improves health of the eyes:

Sweet potatoes’ orange colour comes from the beta-carotene concentration. Our bodies convert beta-carotene into vitamin A, which is essential for maintaining good eye health. Vitamin A helps to produce eye receptors that allow you to see light, resulting in clear vision. Sweet potatoes also include anthocyanins, which, according to one research, help to keep your eyes moist and minimise weariness.

5. Regulating blood sugar:

Credit: Pixels

Sweet potatoes contain a lot of fibre; therefore, they burn slowly. This fibre causes the intestines to absorb sugar at a slower rate, so preventing blood sugar increases. They also include adiponectin, a protein generated by fat cells and circulated in the circulation. People who have difficulty metabolising insulin tend to have low levels of adiponectin. A single research study determined that “higher levels of this protein were monotonically associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.”

6. May protect against Cancers and Heavy metals:

These delectable root vegetables are also high in anthocyanins, which have anti-oxidant characteristics and may bind to metals, assisting in their removal from the body. Anthocyanins have also been found to decrease the development of cancer cells in breast, colon, bladder, and stomach cancer. While animal studies have demonstrated the usefulness of this antioxidant in combating colon cancer, additional research is needed to validate its effects on human cancer cells.

7. May Enhance Heart Health

Credit: Pixels

These veggies are high in fibre, which helps to decrease cholesterol. This is because the fibre binds to the bile acids found in the stomach. This causes the liver to utilise cholesterol to produce more bile. This procedure results in the removal of excess cholesterol from the circulation. This may benefit your heart health because elevated blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease.

Potential Risks

Credit: Pixels

While sweet potatoes have several health advantages, they are best consumed in moderation. This is because they contain a high concentration of oxalates, which may raise your chance of forming kidney stones. If you have a history of kidney stones, you should restrict your consumption of oxalate-containing plants.

Watermelon has had to be one of our favourite fruits, especially as the mercury increases. It’s refreshing and tasty, with plenty of water, vitamins, carbohydrates, and natural energy.

It is primarily water, which is good for your health because it has a diuretic impact when taken.

If the temperature is over 30 degrees, eating a piece of watermelon will provide you with a refreshing experience.

This fruit comes highly recommended since it offers several health benefits. It is very simple to obtain and relatively inexpensive, and probably its finest feature is that it yields for several days.

Unfortunately, not everything is wonderful; certain things can harm you. Even though it may seem unbelievable, watermelon can occasionally cause major health issues. It’s crucial to understand all of the fruit’s traits so that you can throw it away if you see something odd and prevent health issues.

Occasionally, when we open a watermelon, we discover large cracks within, but we disregard this and continue to eat it.

You are seriously harming your body by doing this, so you should stop.

The reason the watermelon’s surface is cracked is due to a substance used for its growth.

This substance is known as Forchlorfenuron. This pulverises the fruits, accelerating their development.

The main issue with this chemical is that if it enters the body, it can cause cancer and neurological issues. Which are quite tough to treat.

Avoid ingesting watermelon when in this state; remember that your health comes first.

How to Keep Watermelon as Fresh as Possible

If you don’t intend to eat a watermelon the day you buy it, there are a few things you can do to keep it fresher for longer. To begin, buy a decent watermelon.

Ideally, you should buy a watermelon with hard skin, a yellow ground spot, a hefty weight, a hollow sound, and two finger-wide stripes.
Once you’ve chosen your watermelon and taken it home, it’s best to leave it whole until you’re ready to eat. Chilling your watermelon also slows down its ripening process. While keeping a whole watermelon on the counter away from direct sunlight is perfectly okay, placing it in the fridge will keep it fresher for longer periods of time.

Once cut, watermelon quickly ripens and loses its freshness. To keep chopped watermelon fresh for as long as possible, refrigerate it immediately. Before storing it in the refrigerator, wrap it in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. Just like when it’s whole, keeping your chopped watermelon cold can help it stay fresher for longer.

Having an overly sensitive man as a partner always feels like you are walking on eggshells as you have to be conscious of the words that you use and how you present them.

Some of these words when used on them, never forget it no matter how much time has passed, it’s like a scar they carry in their hearts for life.

Getty Images

Here are some of the words you should avoid saying to your man:

1. “We Need to Talk.”

This word often evokes fear and they often feel they have done something wrong or they upset you. There are always points in a relationship when you need to discuss some pending matters or something not so crucial with your partner; it’s normal. You can come up with another sentence or word but not necessarily “We Need to Talk,” because they often fear you want to end things with them.

2. “Man Up.”

Sometimes, men are often told to hide their emotions and whatever they might be going through; this is wrong. You don’t even know how they feel or what they are going through. You can’t even walk in their shoes because everyone is different, we all react to things differently, and the least you can do is offer words of encouragement.

Getty Images

3. “Stop Taking Things So Personally.”

When someone lets you in on what they are going through or how they feel, you shouldn’t be judgemental or start offering unsolicited advice. You should tell them they are weak or sensitive, it will only worsen the situation.

4. “You Need to Process the Past and Move On.”

Being with a sensitive man sure comes with lots of tasks and duties. You have to learn what triggers him and those sensitive topics he doesn’t like talking about. It’s not in your place to remind him or tell him to go through this emotional phase; he already knows it’s something he has to do, so don’t rush or remind him.

5. “Can You Please Hurry Up?”

A great number of sensitive men are indecisive as well. It takes a lot of time for him to make decisions because he loves taking time to process every detail. You need to let him make his choices instead of hurrying him.

Sensitive people always need space to process their emotions as they are easily triggered; don’t judge them, give them the time they need.
