“It’s not every day you get five boys proposing to you!” They all had something to say… ‘Miss Malea,’ ‘Are you going to marry me?’
Life doesn’t always go the way you expect it to. Over the last few years, my brother has gone through a lot. I’ve always admired my older brother, but in the previous five years, I’ve witnessed him improve in more ways than I can describe. He’s a witty individual. He laughs hard and often, and his wit is fast and funny. He is a good person. He’s the type of person who treats everyone as if they’re special. I wished for my younger brother to find love. I wanted it and prayed for it.
Malea was introduced to him by a friend, and her compassionate nature and devotion for the Lord pulled him in. They were buddies, and he thought she would make an excellent nanny for his boys because she has a gentle demeanour, and children adore her. ‘Fantastic,’ I exclaimed. ‘A true “Sound of Music” love storey!’ I was only half-joking when I said that. Although she could never become his nanny, they did become friends and visited each other on occasion. I recall seeing Malea for the first time at church. She was requested to pray, and she had a peculiar quality. Her tone was gentle and sweet. I informed Kevin that I believed she would be his future wife. Malea had been praying for her future husband for years and years as well. It wasn’t long before they started dating and falling in love.
She met our family on Easter Sunday, and it was surreal to see them all together; the way they looked at each other, how well they fit on the sofa together, and how much the boys liked her. It was all I could have wished for my brother. This was their person, after all, he’d been through, and after all the years she’d spent longing for her future husband.
Kevin felt it was only suitable to involve his sons in his proposal, which I enjoyed photographing. Malea was duped into believing I wanted to photograph her alone in a wedding setting. I’m constantly snapping pictures, so this didn’t bother her. I was a nervous wreck at the time. The entire time, my heart was hammering. He had a strategy in mind, and he wanted it to be just right for her.
Kevin had sent a letter to his future wife after his divorce a few years ago. That letter was hidden in a small mailbox outside the barn. ‘Look!’ I exclaimed as we walked. ‘There’s something in there,’ says the narrator. All the males crept in behind her and dropped down on one knee as she read the letter with tears in her eyes. They presented her with handmade rings and asked her to be theirs forever. I’ll never forget the excitement that radiated from everyone’s faces.
It was one of the most adorable things I’d ever seen. The guys were thrilled. They alternated hugging her. Their bond is unique. The grins and giggles will stay with me forever. She’d always wanted to be a wife and mother, and now she’s getting her to wish.
It was apparent how much it meant to them. It was a symphony of love. “It’s a narrative about optimism, second chances, redemption, faithfulness, and, of course, love,” says the author.
