Husband’s gut tells him to log into her pregnancy blog when Mom passes the day after birth

Matt visited Liz’s pregnancy blog in an attempt to alleviate his grief. He found himself typing before he realized it.

Matt and Lizz Logelin’s relationship began as a fairytale romance, with the couple meeting in high school and quickly becoming sweethearts before marrying.

Outsiders thought the newlyweds were the perfect couple since they were utterly in love.

Matt used the following words to describe his wife:

“She was flawless.” In every aspect, she was ideal. She was intelligent and amusing. We had been together for eight years before we married.”

Liz discovered out she was pregnant shortly after her wedding. The pair was overjoyed.

Liz decided to start a blog to document her pregnancy and keep her long-distance relatives and friends informed.

When Liz was placed on five weeks of bed rest, three of which necessitated hospitalization, this came in handy.

“Liz had low amniotic fluid,” Matt writes on their blog. Baby’s cord was wrapped around her neck. The baby’s heart rate slowed (multiple times). Liz came close to delivering (on several occasions).”

Despite the difficulties, Liz gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Madeline through Cesarean section.

To the Rachael Ray Show, Matt recounted the birth as follows:

“They stole Madeline away from us.” For a split second, they were able to display her to Liz. They told her she would have to stay in bed for roughly 24 hours because of the C-section.”

“The nurses came in the next morning and said, ‘Okay, we’re going to take you to see Madeline,'” he continued.

“[Liz] was thrilled. They helped her to her feet, and she began to walk around the room. Then she just dropped and muttered, ‘I feel light-headed.’

Liz died from a significant pulmonary embolism just 27 hours after giving birth, never getting the chance to touch her baby daughter.

Her spouse told Racheal Ray on her show:

“She developed a blood clot in her leg that migrated up to her lungs and obstructed both of the lungs’ passages.” It was so big that it happened very instantly.”

Matt was empty and sad.

He didn’t know how he’d manage without the love of his life, never alone how he’d work as a single parent to a darling little girl.

He was primarily concerned with demonstrating that he was in good health to his family. On the Rachael Ray Show, he says:

“All I wanted to do was show them that I was succeeding.” That’s how it all began.”

On the other hand, Matt quickly built a support network of around 40,000 monthly readers, all of whom offered parenting advice, encouragement, and good words to the new father.

“I never dreamed that people would give me advise or that they would help me through this process,” he says on the Rachael Ray Show. It assists me daily.”

Liz and Matt’s tale and blog have made headlines worldwide, but it appears that the father has dropped out of the blogosphere (at least for the time being), with his most recent post dating back to 2014.

Matt has now written a book called Maddie: A Memoir of Loss and Love and formed the Liz Logelin Foundation, which provides grants to families with children who have lost a parent, in addition to blogging.

Netflix also aired “Fatherhood,” a film based on Matt’s tale and starring Kevin Hart, in 2021.
